🌱 Spring Lawn Care Quick Guide
Now is the perfect time to get ahead of weeds and set your lawn up for a strong season.
-
Pre-emergent is key right now. Applying a pre-emergent herbicide in early spring helps prevent crabgrass and other weeds before they even start.
-
Hold off on seeding. Spring might feel like a good time to plant grass, but young roots struggle in the summer heat. Fall is the ideal time for seeding and major lawn repairs.
-
Pro Tip: Split your pre-emergent applications. Apply once between now and mid-April, then again in early June. This extends protection through the peak weed season.
-
Don’t forget fertilizer. A light spring feeding helps your lawn green up and recover from winter. Avoid heavy applications—slow and steady wins here.
-
Mow smart. Start mowing once your grass begins growing consistently. Keep blades sharp and avoid cutting more than 1/3 of the grass height at a time.
-
Water wisely. Spring usually provides enough rain—no need to overwater. Deep, infrequent watering is better than frequent light watering.
-
Bonus tip: If parts of your lawn struggle every year, it’s often a soil issue (compaction, rocks, poor nutrients). Consider aeration in the fall and adding quality topsoil before seeding.
Wishing you a wonderful Passover and Easter.
