January 23, 2013

Hello there,

I hope 2013 is off to a good start for you.

As a successful business professional, I suspect you're already aware that you're involved in a marathon rather than a sprint.

Intuitively, I've embraced the marathon concept. However, a gift I received at Christmas - a Fitbit - has made me realize that I've been on sprint mode rather than marathon. The Fitbit tracks my physical activity and presents it visually on a website or digital device for daily, weekly and monthly comparison.

Data inevitably means patterns. Patterns allow you to draw conclusions and take action. In my case, I'm now walking and climbing stairs throughout the day rather than relying solely on occasional yet intense spin classes for physical activity.

The same holds for marketing and business. Ongoing interactions with customers beat infrequent communications hands down. The data that comes from regular interactions represents actionable information and the opportunity for ongoing improvement and true relationship building.

To inspire you to create regular, ongoing, frequent content in 2013, I share with you my latest marketing resource, a Content Marketing Guide which explores how to put keywords, personas and the buying cycle to work for your business.

I invite you to download this new 12 page Content Marketing Guide and explore it for yourself. Let me know what you think and whether you have questions.

What's Ahead

Coming up next week is Surfaces 2013, the annual exposition for floor covering and stone professionals, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas from 1/28 through 1/31/2013. I will be leading three sessions, including a panel discussion about how retailers use social media to connect with customers. For highlights, including tips, check out the links below.

Your Turn!

How will you embrace the marathon concept for your business? How do you see content fitting in? I'd love to hear!

Have a great month and thank you for reading.

Best,
